Divergent for Christ

My daughter has been asking for weeks to see the movie Divergent. At first I wasn't so sure it would be appropriate. After all it is PG-13 and she is 12. After watching the previews I agreed and I'm glad I did. It was a great movie! The whole premise of the movie I that everyone in society must choose a faction or group. Each group is responsible for certain things and each member is expected to conform to the group. This system is supposed to keep peace and keep everyone under control. But there are some who are known as divergents. Divergents don't fit into one category, but instead have the traits of many. Because of this, they cannot be controlled. They are feared so much, they are killed if discovered.
This sounds just like a description of Christ. He does not fit into any one category, but has traits of them all. Christ is brave (dauntless), peaceful (amity) , intelligent (erudite) , honest (candor) and selfless (abnegation) . He was all of these things while in the flesh on Earth and is still these things today in spirit. If we are to be followers of Christ, we must be divergent as well. We can't have just one (or too much or too little) of these traits or we become unbalanced. Too much intelligence and we become arrogant. Too brave and we become reckless. No honesty and we are liars. If we are too peaceful and we are pushovers, and if we're too selfless we are always in need. It can be difficult to keep all of these traits in balance, so when we are not sure, we should always find out what Christ says. Pray, read the Word deepen your relationship with Christ because we need you to be divergent!
